Science and Technology
Science enables children to discover and investigate the world around them and to satisfy their natural curiosity and thirst for knowledge. We aim to encourage children to think independently and to explore scientific ideas through investigation and experiments.
This year we have also put a significant focus on subject knowledge based on the outline in the new national curriculum.
Every year we also have a science day. This year we are going to be 'Fabulous at Physics!' Last year we were 'Crazy about Chemistry!'
Computing and ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
At St. Peter’s we believe that in our technology rich lives, it is
crucial that our children are curious and confident when using ICT. We use ICT to enable our pupils to be active participants in their learning and to develop transferable skills for the future. Digital Leaders are involved in running aspects of the school website and working on our brilliant school newspaper.
All of our children are taught coding skills using guidance from the new curriculum, We use ipads reguarly and have cross curricular apps for each and every subject. As a school we have been working with Knowle West Media Centre to put the WOW into Computing. This year alone we have designed elves for a hunt around Bedmister. We have made recipe animation videos and have been using amazing green screen technology to deliver weather reports on our school grounds!
We are lucky enough to have special WOW trollies for each year group to really get the children excited around the subject. In the photos below Year 2 built and raced their own remote control cars while Year 5 built and programmed a working Lego fairground!
E-safety is a developing subject and St. Peters is at the forefront of that, ensuring that our pupils take the skills to be safe online users and respect others while using the internet.
