Leave of Absence

This form must be completed and returned to the Head teacher at least 10 days before the absence begins. We will reply to you with our decision as soon as possible.

For your attention:

Absence from school will only be granted in exceptional circumstances. All other absence requests will be recorded as unauthorised and may result in a Penalty Notice being issued.

A Penalty Notice fine can be considered if a pupil has 8-20 sessions (4-10 days) of unauthorised absence in a 10 week period.  A fine will be issued by Bristol City Council and is £60, rising to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days. If you don’t pay the fine you may be prosecuted and taken to Court.

PLEASE CONSIDER

While you are away for one week your child will miss approximately:

  • 5 hours of Maths
  • 7 hours of English
  • 10 hours of learning other subjects

If your child has a holiday of two weeks during term time and has a one week period of sickness in one school year they will miss approximately:

  • 15 hours of Maths
  • 15 hours of English
  • 30 hours of learning other subjects

If this pattern were to be repeated throughout your child’s school life they would miss 36 weeks of their education!

One school year = 38 School weeks!

ASK YOURSELF

What is the impact of my child missing out on their learning? Will your child find it difficult to settle back into school with their friends?

Thinking of taking your child out of school?

Please think again!
